Young was born in the United States and moved to the Philippines at age 10, according to her biography.

The new Miss World is a college student who has appeared on screen as an actress and presenter since she was 15.

Young wants to move behind the camera and become a director, according to her bio.

Miss World's 127 contestants competed in beach fashion, fitness, world fashion, talent and "Beauty with a Purpose" meant to honor charitable work. The top 10 models -- from Ukraine, South Sudan, Brazil, the Philippines, France, Cameroon, Cyprus, England, Italy and the United States -- were announced earlier this week.

Protesters in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, denounced the event.

In an attempt to appease religious concerns, the pageant scrapped the swimsuit competition and replaced it with less-revealing beachwear attire.

Also, the finals were originally to be held on the outskirts of Jakarta, but protesters forced the event to relocate to the Hindu resort island of Bali.

A Crippled Man Jailed For Molesting A Female Bread Seller

According to PM news, man, Kundus Kazeem has been arrested for allegedly r*ping a 19-year-old bread seller at his home in Ajegunle, Lagos.

Kazeem who claims he had a fee agreement with the bread seller has been charged before an Apapa Magistrate’s court.

He is now facing a two-count charge of felony and r*pe under the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The suspect allegedly lured the victim into his one room apartment at Cemetery Road, Ajegunle and with the aid of a walking stick, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The 29-year old Kazeem who admitted that women reject him because of his physical condition, said nothing was wrong him except his two legs.

He also claimed he slept with her after they agreed on a fee and regretted that he was not able to meet the initial condition she gave him.

Kazeem told P.M .NEWS that he did not rape the teenager as she claimed.

He said before they went to his room, they agreed that he will pay N1,000 for the act and that he used part of the money he had on him to entertain her by buying drinks for her and himself, after which he gave her N400.

He said she became angry and went and told her parents that he raped her.

Contrary to his claim of bargaining with her, P.M.NEWS gathered that Kazeem asked the victim to come to his room and sell bread to him.

She did not suspect anything and took the bread to him and when she entered his room, he locked his door and threw her on his bed and used his walking stick to tie her hands, tore her pant and raped her.

The victim went home and told her parents what happened and the matter was reported to the police and he was arrested and charged to court for the alleged offence.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr M.K.O. Fadeyi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.

The matter was adjourned till 6th of December 2013 for mention

Aliyu & Lamido Spoke On Why They Were Fighting President Jonathan

Aliyu-Lamido

ABUJA— The end seems not in sight to the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the aggrieved seven governors operating on the platform of the new PDP (nPDP) are insisting that President Goodluck Jonathan must meet their demands presented at previous meetings they held with him (president).

One of the governors, Dr Aliyu Babangida of NigerState, however, blamed external forces for fueling the crisis between the presidency and the G7 governors and warned party members to be wary of those who are desperate to pull down the party.
Speaking for the seven governors, the deputy National Chairman of the Party, North West, Ambassador Ibrahim Musa Kazaure disclosed that up till now, there was no indication that the Tukur-led PDP was prepared to accept the terms of reconciliation the governors had listed.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido had earlier vowed that the G7 governors would continue to fight on and would never back down, inisting that their cause is just and pro-masses.
Lamido told a crowd in Sokoto where he went to commission projects, that the G7 had saddled themselves with the task of rescuing the Nigerian democracy and the need to re-organise the PDP to make the party comply with the yearnings and aspiration of ordinary members.

Aliyu and Lamido
Aliyu and Lamido

Lamido, who noted that the governors have only been fighting on the side of the masses of Nigeria whom he said have had a raw deal, stressed that the struggle by the G7 was also to ensure that no one, either at the federal or state levels would be able to stand in the way of the down trodden, adding that the struggle was to ensure the return of Nigeria to the path of the truth, justice, equity, fair play and stability of Nigeria.

He said: “The media had referred to us as rebels. But we are not rebels at all. We are the true democrats. We are the custodians of democracy in the land. We are not for any ethnic or religious bias but fighting to make sure democracy in the nation does not die. We are fighting against the enemies of democracy and we don’t plan to give up on that struggle because what we are fighting for has not been actualized.

“I want to assure you that the group has come to stay until justice is restored in our party. I can see the banners of seven of us everywhere here in Sokoto. So we have come to stay.”
It is not yet over — Kazaure

Speaking further, Kazaure said: “Anybody who tells you the differences have been settled is not saying the truth. If you call it war, I then will tell you that the war is still on because the offending group that decided to run the party against the constitution has not relented in its bid to remain lawless.
“We can only reconcile when the leadership of PDP accept that our party operates within its laws. We formed the party when most of them were not there and we won’t allow them hijack it and ruin our efforts.”

Kazaure who noted that his group had insisted that the law won’t be followed, said that the Tukur-led PDP sack and suspend leaders and members arbitrarily, adding, “They manage the party without recourse to the rules and constitution and we said no to that. That is the cause of the problem. So we have to insist that things be done lawfully and orderly.”

How G7 Govs were misled — Senator
However, a stakeholder of the PDP in Adamawa, Senator Grace Folashade Bent who dismissed claims by the G7 governors, said that they were rather undemocratic by allowing the issue of only one of them, Admiral Murtala Nyako to rule their conduct, adding that the PDP stakeholders in Adamawa could not understand the basis they allowed Nyako to lure them into a fight against the President of Nigeria and the Party which she said gave them the tickets to be governors.

According to her, the G7 had portrayed itself as undemocratic by failing to investigate what she termed the root of Nyako’s grievances with the PDP National Chairman, while they equally failed to give the PDP members in Adamawa fair hearing on the crises in the state which she stressed had snow balled into the current crisis within the PDP.

Bent blamed the governor of RiversState, Rotimi Amaechi for the escalation of the crises in PDP, stating that as the Chairman of the Governors Forum, he had always been biased in his assessment of the issues within the party in respect of the interest of the governor of Adamawa state rather than being fair minded.

Both President Jonathan and the G7 Governors are expected to hold the second round of their reconciliation meeting on October 7, following which the two sides would decide whether or not to stay together under one umbrella.
Blame external forces for PDP crsis— Aliyu

Meanwhile, Niger state governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu yesterday blamed external forces for fueling the crisis between the presidency and the G7 governors and warned party members to be wary of those who are desperate to pull down the party.

Speaking when the commander of Nigeria Army Corps Artillery, Kontagora Major General Hussaini Salihu paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Minna yesterday, the governor said, “there is a signal that some external forces are fully behind the crisis in the PDP especially as it concerns the deadlocked reconciliation moves.

“What is happening in PDP is an internal affair but I am beginning to see a sign that some people don’t want the reconciliation to be successful because the type of articles you see in the newspapersare like some people are out there trying to ensure that there is no reconciliation,” he observed.

He described the disagreement in the PDP as a“Struggle for democracy and morality” which according to him is “keeping the promised made either in secret or public”.
Dr Aliyu said, “the struggle we are witnessing is that of Democracy and morality. Morality meaning that if you make an agreement whether in private or public, we must learn to keep such promise which include promise that if you do this I will do that.

We must therefore not allow those people outside the party to get enmeshed in the problem that is not their own and in the process they are really pulling down what we are trying to build”.
Dr. Aliyu who also spoke on internal security insisted that rather than scrap the National Youth Service Scheme, it should be extended to one and a half years of which the first six months should be for military training for all participants.

According to him, “any disciplined person will create a disciplined environment and a disciplined environment will give you a disciplined people and disciplined nation and that is what we need in our country.”

The Artillery commander, Gen. Salihu said he was in Minna to inspect Army formations within the state and to assess the security challenges facing the country for now and how to tackle them for peace to reign in the entire country.

Baba Oyedepo Opens Abuja Winners Chapel

Abuja-Winners-Chapel

The Federal Capital Territory was agog on Saturday when Bishop David Oyedepo inaugurated one of the biggest branches of The Living Faith Church, popularly referred to as Winners Chapel in Life Camp District in Abuja.

The church, which accommodates over 4,000 worshipers every Sunday, was built in less than one year.

Thousands of worshipers gathered to witness the unveiling of the cathedral, which is estimated to be over N300m.

Oyedepo, who was represented by a Senior Pastor, Dele Bamgboye, revealed that with the dedication of the branch, Life Camp and its environs were set to experience a spiritual rebirth.

He therefore charged the congregation to always have faith in God, as only Him can supply all their needs.

Top clergymen and some senior government officials in Abuja and in other northern states under the Winners Chapel family, were on ground to witness the official inauguration.

Resident Pastor of the church and younger brother to Bishop Oyedepo, Gideon Oyedepo, told journalists that the church project gulped millions of naira.

Gone to Rest- The Iconic Photographer,Peter Obe Dies At Age 81

peter-obi-dies-at-age-81

iconic photographer, Peter Oyeyemi Obe, who brought the swampy gloom of the Nigerian civil war horror to public reality via his troubling and tense images, has passed on. He was 81, born 28 December 1932.

News of Mr. Obe’s passage came mid-day Sunday when his nephew, Taiwo Obe, the renowned editor and promoter of the famous professional social media site on LinkedIn, Everythingjournalism, tweeted, quoting family sources, that the ace cameraman had “died at his residence situated on 31 Alhaji Masha/Moronu Street, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria” adding, “His first son, Femi, made the official announcement.”

The departed Mr. Obe influenced a whole generation of photojournalists on account of his adventurous and daring coverage of the 30-month Nigerian civil war in the seventies. A different genre of much younger professionals, not necessarily practicing in journalism, was also drawn by this iconoclasm, nurtured by a peculiar drive for intimacy with his subjects that were vividly realised through close-up, and wide-angle shots. Although his war photography was his signature call, he nevertheless worked across a varied landscape of photojournalism, from conflict coverage, through politics and civic life, to sports.

Working mostly in an age of black-and white photography, his peculiar drive ultimately defined an oeuvre of daunting, perhaps mysterious, and sometimes provocative image sense. He would barrel the lens menacingly towards his subjects in a probing hunt always seeking the zero-point of the subject where their soul resides. Thus, the striking individuality of his subjects, their restless search for identity and affirmation, put him ahead of peers in the exploration of the modern moments in Nigerian photography.

He was for years Chief photographer of the Daily Times but had a stint of freelance work for the Agence France Presse (AFP). The media and development group, Panos Institute, also kept some of his stocks in its London archives.

His coverage of the Nigerian civil war for the Daily Times resulted in a coffee-table book, “Civil War Pictures From Nigeria: A Decade of Crisis in Pictures.”

Mr. Taiwo Obe recorded early condolence messages of notable greats in the media showering tributes. Mr Lade Bonuola (aka Ladbone), pioneer editor and now executive consultant at The Guardian (Nigeria) wrote: “As chief cameraman of the Daily Times and I as the chief sub-editor, we worked very closely together. He never failed in supplying me terrific action photographs for the front page. Once I shouted ‘Exclusives’, I trusted he was on the way to the newsroom to supply page 1 photograph.”

Former Photo Editor at the defunct NEXT newspaper Mr Gbile Oshadipe, who currently teaches photojournalism at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, said: “We’ve lost a pioneer in photojournalism at a time novices appropriate media space and pretend to be pros.”

Using the platform of Everythingjournalism on Linkedin, other editors have also been speaking on the passage of the Mr. Obe.

Mr. Lanre Idowu, editor at the defunct ThisWeek Magazine and Democrat newspaper, and one of the most attentive historians of contemporary Nigerian media practice, wrote: “A great star has fallen from the photojournalistic firmament. I remember one of his Civil War shots. It was a great shot of a soldier’s boot. Lying by the roadside, it raised questions on the whereabouts of its owner…his fate and how the boot got there.”

One time editor of the Vanguard newspaper, Ikeddy Isiguzo, testified on how Mr. Obe “became such an institution [and] that there was nobody he could not tell he wanted his shot. Indeed it would be considered an honour if he did.”

He recalled, “One of my most vivid memories of his photos is the one of Brigadier Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Christian Chukwu and Sam Ojebode, captains of their teams, together at the centre of the National Stadium.

He got them holding a ball, beaming best smiles, to douse a mounting tension as IICC-Rangers played in the first leg of the final of the 1977 Cup Winners Cup.

Pa Obe still continued his art at a time many of his age had retired. He was truly a legend. I am not sure he even got a national honour.”

Iconoclastic writer, and journalist, Maxim Uzuato wrote: “Peter Obe the Great! They no longer make photo greats of your pedigree! Rest in the Lord, Pa!

Lighting up a sombre atmosphere, expressionist painter, writer, and former art editor at the defunct NEXT, Victor Ehikhamenor, who is himself a photographer, commented tersely but in brightness on his twitter handle @sozaboy that Mr. Obe “had a great eye.”

Mr. Obe’s Collection of photographs taken over the period from Independence in October 1960 through to the 30-month civil war represent some of the most honest if even biting records of Nigeria’s post independence history and narratives.

A 14 year old girl in Bungoma County last night safely gave birth to triplets. The school dropout and her babies are in good condition but still in hospital.

Mwanarahab Wamukoya shocked staff at the Bungoma district hospital not for giving birth to three boys but because of her age.

Mwanarahab says her and her 16 year old boyfriend tried to get married after she found out she was pregnant but their plan failed.

Doctors at Bungoma hospital are happy that Mwanarahab gave birth safely in a hospital and not at home as more teenage mothers do. Her new born sons are in good health and she will be discharged from hospital soon.

Kenyan health practitioners have expressed concern over the increasing rates of teenage pregnancies.
