Super Eagles’ former chief coach, Christian Chukwu, has urged Flying Eagles’ coach John Obuh to restrategise for today’s duel against Gabon in the African Youth Championship in Algeria for them to overcome the initial 0-1 loss to Mali in the competition. Chukwu, who is currently with the Heartland Football Club of Owerri as Technical Director, said Flying Eagles need to adopt fresh tactics to bulldose their way to the next stage by winning the remaining matches in group.
“After losing the first game, they should not go to sleep because Nigeria is the only team to beat in the competition as the defending champion. I am not surprised they had a tough match in their first game. It was expected that it won’t be easy to remain in the first position. It requires much hard work and determination to scale through the hurdle,”he said. Chukwu, however, charged Flying Eagles to rise to the billing and make the best of the Under-20 World Cup qualifier in Algeria.
“I know that Gabon would also pose a serious threat to Nigeria. Don’t be surprised to see them in great shape today. By playing in this tournament, it means they have what it takes to tackle Flying Eagles. Obuh and his boys should better watch it,”he said. However, Obuh had promised that his wards would bounce back in spite of the initial loss to Mali.
He agreed that it was very difficult against Mali, but they will get the desired result today.Gabon and DR Congo played out a 0-0 draw in the other Group B opener last Sunday to keep the section very much wide op en. Kick-off for the match against Gabon today is 8.30pm at the Stade Ahmed Zabana in Oran.
